"An Unmarried Woman"

I decided to refinance my home and signed about a billion documents today. One of those documents was some paper registering me with the county and I was listed as, "An unmarried woman."

What, pray tell, does that have to do with anything?

And while I'm speaking of the absurd, for some reason they decided to process this loan under my full name, meaning I had to sign first, middle and last name on everything. I don't think I've written "Sumiko" in cursive, ever. Is that one hump or two on the m...Why does a cursive m have three humps anyway?  Who made that up? Do we make three little loopy things for a cursive w??

I make a motion to abandon cursive writing. What's the purpose anyway? We don't use fountain pens anymore or anything with a nib (nib?), so theres no longer a need for a smooth, flowing style of handwriting. Curses on cursive, I say!

  1. At least they could have said "An unmarried woman with property and the franchise.

  2. We've refinanced twice. I think one time I had to sign Toshiko in cursive and one time just T. Very awkward. The last time I wrote it in cursive was on my social security card, when I was 10.
After signing paper copies, did they then make you do everything again online? Maybe we had to do it since a notary came to our house instead of us going to the bank.

  3. Agreed, cursive is a thing of the past! I distinctly remember my third grade teacher telling us how our high school teachers wouldn't even accept an assignment that wasn't in cursive... Well, we all know true that turned out to be.

  4. You're all wrong!!! Cursive is obviously a superior form of writing. Not only does it distinguish us from the lower illiterate class but it's totally faster when the letters just flow into each other. However I do write in somewhat of a half breed. Some letters such as lower case b really slow you down.
