Nikki is a cat; she ate out of little glass bowls kept in the cupboard alongside dinnerware meant for humans.
Certain people had no qualms about eating from dishes a cat had licked. I, knowing that cats lick their bums, had many qualms and did not participate.
I look back and I can't remember if I ever ate something off the plates we let Oreo use! I never thought about it!
ReplyDeleteGROOOOSSSSSSSS!!! I am with you; I would never eat out of any eating utensil an animal had used ever!
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing you never had a cat. But I could be wrong. I looked up all kinds of information today about a cat's mouth and germs (yes I was bored). Cats and humans have the same amount of bacteria in their mouths (in fact some articles said humans have more). So if you eat off of dishes other people have eaten off of it's kind of like eating off of a dish a cat has licked. As long as the dishes are thoroughly washed it shouldn't really matter. But I know you can't help the way you feel. Maybe you should invest in paper plates, then you would never have to worry about anyone's germs.
ReplyDeleteThough we love and adore little Jynx, we don't let him use our dishes. Rest assured if you come over to eat!
ReplyDeleteAs a rule, few people ate out of the Nikki bowl. It usually was filled with cat food or water. But it ended up making the move up to 18th East, along with some old miso and other Japanese type foodstuffs. The Nikki bowl was broken about 3-4 years ago, but it was only about 18 months ago I finally acquiesced and cleared the fridge of the old foodstuffs.
ReplyDeleteToxoplasmosis, Parinaud's (Cat scratch fever), and they lick their butts so potentially a bazillion others. The first two are what my (loathsome) job makes me think of immediately.
