Hobby Lobby Lunacy

I entered Hobby Lobby looking for cellophane bags and left with an ulcer. Craft stores in general distress me--drain my energy, make my head ache. Hobby Lobby is out of control. I could feel my anxiety/panic rising with every minute I spent there! Is it the pressure to decorate? I have no idea but I dislike that place immensely. Is there really any reason or need for 50 ft high aisles of garland and wrapping paper? 200 lb crucifixes? 5,000 glue guns?

I found the cellophane bags after wandering for three miles. I went to checkout, there were two cashiers and 20 women in line. The woman ahead of me had a huge stack of scrapbook paper--all priced differently, all needing to be scanned individually. What kind of madness is this??

Never again.

  1. The pressure to decorate, yes! I am overwhelmed by their displays. I want them all, but I get completely overstimulated, start shutting down, and end up leaving with buying anything.

  4. Funny. I love Hobby Lobby. I find its quirkiness appealing and there's something about the color coordinated decorative item displays that is strangely compelling. :)

I don't know when I go in a place like that (or even a hardware store) I walk around and think of all the cool things I could waste my time making. The main danger of Hobby Lobby for me is spending money on crafts items for a craft I will never have time to make.

Scrapbooking is something that has never appealed to me though. I can barely convince myself to get my digital pictures off my digital camera and upload them to Flickr much less get them printed, come up with cute little slogans and themes and glue them onto pretty paper with lots of little theme related die cuts. But to each his own, right?

  5. You are so funny! Did you maybe feel more pressure to need to put some decor up b/c of all Spencer's comments while at your home?!! P.S. We are still Totally On with painting some colored walls in your place! Maybe a little holiday change? Now is perfect, and it is so worth it, makes you feel more cheery about the place. C'mon, you know you want to be a little adventurous now, since you can't move for another 4 years now!...

  6. I hate craft stores. I dread going to one because the thought of walking through aisles of fake flowers, fake birds, styrofoam, little bits of paper in tiny bags and puffy paint makes me claustrophobic. And I can't help but think - what a bunch of crap.
    Stick that in your pipe
